Well, it’s been 24 years, but I have been unable to put it off any longer. My freedom draws to a close as I have finally accepted a full time job. As you may have guessed if you’ve read previous posts, this foray into full time employment will not involve returning to the back breaking labour of the post office sorting centre. Instead I am venturing out to the wilds of Oxfordshire where I start tomorrow at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, Raymond Blanc’s restaurant in Great Milton.
The official position may be chef, but if all goes to plan then I expect my title to be changed to ‘Raymond’s best friend’ in a week or so. I’ll let you know how it goes. Our preliminary encounter at my trial went fine. I successfully managed not to say anything offensive about the French, Arsenal (his team) or burn anything. A firm foundation for any friendship.
With this new job, I am presented with a new problem, namely the future of this blog, as I am unsure as of yet whether the restaurant would look kindly on me writing about day to day life in the kitchen. I presume not, but we shall see. Perhaps I should take the blog in a new direction. I reckon there’s a market for becoming the number one online resource for feline embroidery patterns….or I could just write about food generally. Probably safer.
